Alto 2 Leader
There has always been music in Joyce's life since birth. Her parents and grandfather always had the radio switched on to their favourite English, Chinese and Cantonese channels at all waking hours. Joyce started learnin the piano at the age of 5 and later went on to playing the electone organ. She started singing in choirs only in Secondary school and that sparked her love for choral music. She has since never been bereft of choir activities.
Joyce has travelled and performed in Central Japan, Israel and Jordan with a Singaporean church choir in the 90s, sung and conducted with numerous chamber choirs, acapella groups and symphonic choirs during her undergraduate studies in Music Education at the University of Western Australia. She dabbled as a lounge and jazz singer for weddings and gigs in Australia as well as back in Singapore, and has acted in several musicals and operas, staying true to her mantra of 'trying everything at least once'.
Joyce was formerly the conductor of the CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' Primary Choir, and now co-conducts her church choir, the Soli Deo Gloria Chorale, happily praying and worshipping with a group of very dedicated members who keeps her grounded.
She is currently a primary school teacher, a career which has spanned over the past 25 years, and is a mom to 2 beautiful and funny kids.
Joyce is proud to be a member of VOCO, feeling energised and renewed by making beautiful music of the highest calibre with a bunch of wonderful and talented women.
